EAGLE — The final numbers are in and 2015 was definitely a good sales tax year in Eagle.

Last year Eagle collected $3,336,796 in sales tax — a 12.4 percent gain. That’s a double-digit increase and it marks an important threshold — Eagle’s sales tax collections have finally exceeded pre-Great Recession levels.

For five years, the town has seen some growth in sales tax, with the exception of 2014, with a small decrease.

The 2015 numbers show that the Market Street area — which includes the City Market grocery store — remains the biggest sales tax generator for Eagle. That area contributed 42 percent of the town’s revenues in 2015. The Chambers Avenue area was the second biggest producer at 29 percent. The downtown area contributed 6 percent and the U.S. Highway 6 and Eagle Ranch areas each contributed 4 percent.

During 2015, food items, liquor stores, automotive items and building materials recorded strong numbers.
