Eagle seasonal open space closure begins Tuesday
EAGLE — The seasonal closures on town of Eagle open space south and west of Eagle Ranch begin Tuesday and will continue through April 15.
The restrictions impact the Eagle Ranch loops, as well as the third loop of Haymaker Trail and the new Extra Credit trail. The first two loops of Haymaker remain open year-round.
The closures prohibit human activities and are vital to protect wintering deer and elk during critical survival times.
Craig Wescoatt, District Wildlife Manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said deer are particularly stressed by low temperatures and winter conditions.
“Deer are essentially on a starvation diet during the winter months, and have to use all of their energy just to survive. Interference by people and dogs stresses wildlife and can make the difference in their ability to weather the winter,” he said.
Wescoatt added that it is imperative that dog owners prevent their animals from harassing wildlife when walking outside during the winter months. State law states that animals harassing wildlife can be shot and that owners can be subjected to fines.
