Eagle Town Board may make manager offer Tuesday
EAGLE — The outgoing Eagle Town Board said it would hire a new town manager before it leaves, and in its last meeting Tuesday it might just do it.
The town board announced at 4:50 p.m. it would discuss whether or not to make an offer to one of their two finalists, John Schneiger and Clark Gundlach.
The agenda item “town manager employment offer,” had not been included on tonight’s previously published agenda.
“If the majority of the board wants to, then we will. If the majority wants to wait until after April 26 when the new board is seated, we’ll go that way,” said Anne McKibbin, current mayor pro tem and incoming mayor.
When the new board is sworn in later this month, among the new board’s first duties are to ratify the town manager’s and the town clerk’s contracts, according to state law.

While the current Town Board can hire a new manager, the incoming board will have to ratify the town manager’s contract when it takes office on April 26. In the last election, Eagle voters turned over five of the board’s seven seats.
When the current Town Board announced its finalists March 22, it started a 14-day countdown that must expire before it can offer a contract to one of the finalists.
The board’s agenda cannot be changed within 24 hours of the beginning of the meeting, according to state law. Eagle’s town board meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
