Eagle trails open, but muddy
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado ” The seasonal closures have now officially been lifted off of Eagle’s open space lands south of Eagle Ranch. The mid-December through mid-April closures are enacted annually to protect wintering wildlife.
Still, users are urged to be careful, and to use some discretion to avoid damaging trails which may still be muddy.
“It’s a common sense issue. If trail users encounter snow and mud, please turn around,” said Eagle County Open Space Coordinator Bill Heicher. He said that early season damage to the trails caused by inappropriate use is costly and time-consuming to repair. Worst case scenarios could lead to trail closure, he warned.
Because of the heavy snows this winter, trail users will find large amounts of snow and mud remaining on the trails.
Users of the East Eagle (Bellyache) trails and the pool/ice rink trail are also urged to exercise caution.
Questions or comments can be directed to Bill Heicher at the Town of Eagle (328-6354) or Brian Maiorano at the Bureau of Land Management in Glenwood Springs (947-2806).
