Eagle trails open Friday
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – The town of Eagle’s open space trails adjacent to the Eagle Ranch neighborhood will open for use Friday.
The open space areas are annually closed to people from Dec. 15 to April 15 in order to protect wintering deer and elk. The seasonal use restriction also protects roads, trails and vegetation from damage during the time of year that the land is fragile.
The winter closures, effective since 1998, are part of the development approval agreement worked out between the Eagle Ranch developer, the town of Eagle, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
With the trails opening on Friday, hikers and bikers are urged to keep an eye on the weather, particularly the pattern of wet and sunny days. People are asked to avoid using trails that are wet and muddy to avoid damaging the land. Also, be on the lookout for wildlife. Avoid any interaction with animals and give them plenty of space.
All dogs must be leashed, and owners should clean up after their pets.
