Eagle-Vail bocce ball tournament coming up
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado ” A bocce ball tournament, live music, silent auction and dinner will be held June 29 to raise money for Swift Eagle Charitable Foundation.
The charitable event “La Bella Festa” will be held at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion at 1 p.m. with a bocce ball tournament to follow on nearby athletic fields. Teams of four will participate in the round-robin tournament.
In bocce ball, players throw larger balls to try to get closest to a smaller ball and score points. The team to score 11 points first or that has the most points in a certain time, whichever comes first, wins.
David Haakenson, founder and president of Swift Eagle Charitable Foundation, said the foundation’s goal is to “swiftly help people in Eagle County who have critical needs.” The foundation works with Eagle County Health and Human Services, the Salvation Army and Vail Valley Charitable Fund to help Eagle County residents in need.
The foundation now has about $100,000 to help residents who apply for its funds, Haakenson said. Money is given to people ” those with health problems, single mothers, or those who have had a disaster strike their home, such as a fire ” who need it, he said. To apply for funds, go to http://www.swifteagle.org and click “application for assistance.”
Cash prizes will be provided and dinner and drinks will follow the tournament, he said.
“People think it’s just a men’s thing, but it’s for ladies as well,” he said.
Sponsorship packages for the foundation range from $1,000 to $15,000, which includes perks such as tickets to the event and team photos. To sign up for the event, call Ginny Snowdon at 970-949-5279 or e-mail email@example.com.
Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson has spoken at fundraisers in the past, but won’t be at La Bella Festa this year.
“Hopefully next year he’ll come,” Haakenson said.
