Eagle Vail Clubhouse nearing big crossroad

EAGLE-VAIL — Eagle-Vail is in the midst of exploring what to do with its aging golf clubhouse that’s now 40-plus years old, and it’s going to be an increasingly important topic in the next few weeks as a decision point is nearing.

The options being explored by an interdisciplinary team hired by the Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District two months ago include razing the existing clubhouse — as was recommended in a 2008 Urban Land Institute master planning report — and selling the land for development, to remodeling the existing clubhouse and building a new, community clubhouse facility with a variety of programming, providing the community with an intergenerational meeting place.

A survey estimated the existing clubhouse serves less than 10 percent of Eagle-Vail residents, and the building, which is at the end of its life span, is becoming increasingly expensive to maintain.

Community Clubhouse Option

The community clubhouse option envisions locating that facility near the Eagle-Vail pool and tennis courts so it creates a more critical mass for community events. The interdisciplinary team works with community committees and will recommend a preferred option to the Eagle-Vail Board of Governors at its March 17 meeting.

A number of community meetings on the future of the clubhouse have been held with the next meetings on the topic:

• March 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Golf Course Clubhouse.

• March 5, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion.

• March 19, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion.
