Eagle-Vail students win big at state meet

EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado ” The speech team from Battle Mountain High School in Eagle-Vail, Colorado, had an impressive showing at the 2009 State Speech Festival this past weekend. The school would like to congratulate the team for picking up a lot of awards and working so hard to prepare for the festival. Battle Mountain students picked up awards in the following categories:

One On One Value Debate:

Brianna Johnson earned an Excellent rating

Adam Borne placed fifth

Shea Wilson placed fourth

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Public Forum Debate:

Allison Lanes and Cameron Dexter placed eighth

Duet Drama:

Remsen Allard and Kris Thornton placed ninth

Duet Humor:

Gina Lovell and Aaron Szindler placed 11th

Sage Buchalter and Nicole Frye placed sixth

Susanna DeChant and Molly Moffet placed fifth

Elie Cahill and Alyssa Evans placed fourth

(Three of the six finalists in this event were from Battle Mountain High School)

Creative Storytelling:

Bailey Garton earned an Excellent rating

Makenzie Mueller placed eighth

Poetry Interpretation:

Nicole Frye, Allison Lanes and Cliff Rodrick earned Excellent ratings

Impromptu Speaking:

Cameron Dexter earned an Excellent rating

Humor Interpretation:

Molly Moffet placed fifth

Aaron Szindler placed third

In Solo Acting:

Jamie Overcash placed 12th

Jillian Kiss placed eighth

Gina Lovell placed fifth

In Drama Interpretation:

Sage Buchalter placed seventh

Susanna DeChant placed third

Fiona Jeppson placed first and is the 2009 State Champion
