Eagle-Vail supports tax increase
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado – At its recent board meeting, the Eagle-Vail Board of Governors passed a resolution supporting ballot initiative 5A. This initiative would give the Eagle River Fire Protection District a 3.77 mill levy, which would ratchet down as property values rebound in Eagle County. The community of Eagle-Vail is within and protected by the Eagle River Fire Protection District.
The district has experienced a severe revenue decrease due to recent unprecedented drops in property values in Eagle County. The district has historically received 90 percent of its revenue from property taxes. In response to the decrease, the district has cut 70 percent of its administrative staff, deferred critical equipment purchases and has implemented rolling station closures.
Should the mill levy not pass, two stations in the district’s service area will be permanently closed in 2014.
A local campaign, Citizens Campaign for 5A, is active in supporting the initiative. Visit the Campaign’s website, http://www.erfpdvoteyes.com, for more information. You can also call 970-306-7444.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
