The Classical Academy (TCA) swept Eagle Valley 25-12, 25-23, 25-20 in the first round of the 4A state volleyball tournament at the Denver Coliseum on Thursday.

The Devils jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set before the Titans went on a momentum-changing 11-2 run. Eagle Valley regained the lead 21-20, but were unable to close things out.

A similar narrative was written in the third. Eagle Valley held an early 10-9 advantage before a 4-0 Titan run flipped the script. The Devils pulled within three, 17-14, but were unable to get the lead back.

Eagle Valley (20-6) is still alive in the double-elimination tournament and will face No. 1 Lewis-Palmer, which was upset by No. 9 Cheyenne Mountain 3-1, on Friday at 9:30 a.m. If the Devils are able to win three-straight games, they’ll advance to the 4A state semifinal on Saturday. All of the tournament’s games are being live streamed on the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) network.
