Saturday marks it’s Record Store Day, your day to support your local record store. We happen to have one, Eagle Valley Music & Comics in Minturn, and they’ll be open at 10 a.m. They’ll be giving away all kinds of free SWAG – vinyl records, CDs, totes from record companies, and other stuff. Get there early if you want some of it.”There may even be cassette tapes. They’ve never gone away!” said Tom Robbins, owner of Eagle Valley Music & Comics. You remember these folks. They were in the Crossroads in Vail, then spent five and a half years in the West Vail Mall. They bought a space in Minturn and this is their big opening event for that location. When we caught up with Robbins Thursday, he’d been pricing records until about 3 a.m.There’s a sampler from Metal Blade and one from the Beatles. Some of Eric Clapton’s best work will be available, colored vinyl, picture records. The second Phish, “Lawn Boy” will be available.”Some of it’s unusual, but some people like the unusual,” Robbins said. “We have everything available, and about twice as much as last year.”Warner Brothers does side-by-side recordings of a classic song. On one side, the classic cut by bands like Deep Purple, and a cover by a modern band on the other side. This is the sixth annual Record Store Day.
