GYPSUM — The Eagle Valley Rod and Gun Club has been waiting for decades to throw this party.
On Saturday, the organization will celebrate the grand opening of its new clubhouse at the Gypsum Shooting Sports Park. In October of 2015, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs approved a $332,433 grant for construction of the clubhouse and the town of Gypsum provided matching funds for the project. The result is a $600,000, 4,800 square foot facility that includes a large meeting room and kitchen on the main level with classroom space on the lower level.
“It’s more than a clubhouse, its a community building,” said Dick Mayne, a member of the Eagle Valley Rod and Gun Club Board of Directors.
To celebrate the grand opening, the club his hosting one of its popular turkey and bacon shoot events. Competition will feature rifle, shotgun and pistol events and the club announcement promises there will be many chances to win.
“The shotgun will be Annie Oakley or piece shoots, and are usually good for a lot of laughs,” noted the event announcement.
For shooters and spectators alike, the celebration will feature a free lunch served by Gypsum Creek Grill.
