The past year has proven to be a monumental one for the team pushing to make the Castle Peak Senior Care facility a reality.

So it seemed only fitting that the project celebrate its ground-breaking year, even though an official ground-breaking ceremony won’t happen until next spring. As a result, a group of local residents who have worked hard toward making the senior housing center a reality gathered last week to celebrate a construction sign unveiling at the Castle Peak Senior Care site. Now motorists, pedestrians and bicyclist know something big is planned at the intersection of Capitol Street and Sylvan Lake Road in Eagle Ranch.

Augustana Care, a Minnesota based nonprofit organization that owns and manages 23 senior care projects, is partnering with Eagle County to build the Castle Peak Senior Care Community. Augustana will build a 62,000 square foot project at the five-acre site located immediately north of Brush Creek Elementary School. The Castle Peak Senior Care Center will include 22 skilled nursing beds, 20 assisted living apartments, 12 memory care beds and 10 transitional care units.

A robust fund-raising effort met with great success this year, delivering on a $4.4 million fund-raising goal. The center plan will not go through the town of Eagle development review process prior to the start of construction next year.

Dave Saemrow, Augustana vice president of marketing and public relations, spoke during last week’s event, complimenting the Eagle County community for its commitment to the project. He said that on-going interest was a big part of his company’s decision to get involved.

“You’ve laid a solid foundation here,” Saemrow said.
