Doug Seabury resigns his position

EAGLE — By the month’s end, Eagle Town Board member Doug Seabury anticipates selling his home in the community and moving upvalley.

That means he will be resigning his Town Board seat.

Seabury informed his fellow Town Board members of his plans before last week’s meeting and the issue was brought forward for discussion Tuesday night. Seabury was elected to the board in 2014 and has a little less than two years left on his four-year term. He is also resigning his seat on the Eagle Marketing and Events Committee.

Seabury cited a number of changes in his personal life — his children are enrolled in upvalley schools and he and his wife recently sold their Eagle business, Everyday Outfitters. Seabury then put his house on the market and a buyer quickly materialized. He noted the sale is not yet final, but is slated to close at the end of the month.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” he told the board.

Seabury’s formal resignation is expected Aug. 31, which leaves the Town Board with the issue of how to fill the vacancy. The board can appoint a new member or could call for a vote during the coordinated election in November. Members chose the first option. The appointment to replace Seabury will be the fourth time in three years the Town Board will call for applicants to fill a vacancy.

“Unfortunately, we have a fair amount of experience with this,” said Town Board member Andy Jessen.

The board directed staff to advertise for applicants, and the vacancy notice was posted Wednesday. Applications should be submitted by mail no later than Thursday, Sept. 8 to Eagle Town Clerk, PO Box 609, Eagle CO 81631 or emailed to: clerk@townofeagle.org.
