Duck Pond Open Space site improvements under way
Construction of new recreational and access amenities is under way at Duck Pond Open Space, located on the Eagle River between Gypsum and Dotsero.
Improvements to the parcel include installation of a concrete boat ramp and vault restroom, parking area enhancements and installation of signs and fencing. In addition, the Eagle Valley Regional Trail is being built simultaneously through the property by ECO Trails and Eagle County Road and Bridge.
Two adjacent properties were purchased by Eagle County Open Space in 2009 and 2011 to create the 55-acre Duck Pond Open Space. Following the purchase, significant demolition and restoration of the property was coordinated by Eagle County. In 2013, the Eagle Valley Land Trust acquired a conservation easement to permanently protect the parcel.
While Duck Pond has been open for public use since 2011, the project will improve accessibility and safety for boaters, anglers and tubers coming from upstream launch points. Funding for the upgrades comes from the county’s dedicated Open Space Fund. Additional improvements and partnerships with Colorado Parks and Wildlife are also being considered.
Eagle County Open Space previously developed four boat ramps and a primitive access point on the Colorado River. The improvements at Duck Pond are the program’s first of this type on the Eagle River and are expected to see heavy recreational use.
