Eagle cemetery mulls expansion, improvements proposals
Like many neighborhoods in town, the final resting place for many local residents is running out of space.
With approximately 150 burial plots remaining, the Sunset View Cemetery in Eagle is looking at an expansion plan. When The Terrace subdivision was approved by the Eagle Town Board in the 1990s, land was set aside for cemetery expansion and added to the grounds but it has not yet been master planned.
This week, cemetery district board members and representatives from Zehren and Associates will present expansion plans and proposals for enhancement projects at the site during an open house scheduled Thursday night. The board is considering construction of a columbarium — a wall with niches where urns containing remains can be interred. Additionally, the board is looking at developing a gathering area near the lower cemetery entrance where memorial services could be held as well as a hillside garden in the area of a steep slope on the lower west end of the existing cemetery.
During Thursday’s session, representatives will present details about all of the proposals and share financial information regarding the district operations.
Local residents are invited to attend the session. For additional information contact Nancy Powell, cemetery administrator, at 970-376-5833 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Snow usually comes and goes in this part of the state. A forecasted storm is expected to stick around for a while. Forecasters are calling for snow to persist throughout the weekend in the high country, with a prospect of a couple of feet of powder by the time the storm starts to diminish on Monday.
