Eagle fire unveils new, custom truck
Greater Eagle Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the arrival of a new fire engine.
The engine was made to order from specifications determined by an equipment apparatus committee that included fire officers, volunteer firefighters and a board member. The committee specifically designed the truck based on the safety needs of the community and the need to maximize taxpayers’ dollars.
“This investment is required in order to remain innovative and competitive with the changing times as demands for service both change and increase,” said Michele Ziccardi, spokesperson for the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District.
“The new engine is a significant upgrade to service. Increasing demands for service, new standards and reducing operating costs were all considered and evaluated in the decision making process,” Ziccardi coninued.
The new Engine 9 replaces an 18-year-old truck that had exceeded its value with repair costs and functionality. The new engine has unique capabilities ranging from fire, hazmat, and EMS incidents to wildland fires and rope rescue. It also is a custom fire engine with four wheel drive, can drive and pump water simultaneously and has operating capabilities that are interchangeable with neighboring fire departments.
“The function to have inter-operability with other departments allows firefighters to be more efficient with responses, also promotes safety,” Ziccardi said.
Special aesthetic features of the new engine include its color scheme and the decaling. The engine is white with red and blue striping.
“The patriotic coloring represents our country’s flag as well as America as a whole. The decaling honors firefighters and emergency service personnel who lost their lives on 9/11,” said Ziccardi.
The Greater Eagle Fire Protection District welcomes the public to view the fire truck at the Eagle station.
