Eagle Liquor Mart launches large expansion
EAGLE — As they motor, walk or bike along the busy Market Street roadway, downvalley residents can’t help but notice change is under way at the business strip where Eagle Liquor Mart is located.
Right now, the mart is the only operation doing business in the center. In the future, the liquor store will continue to operate out of the site, but in a much larger fashion.
Business owner Beverly Barnes and her husband Don recently purchased the entire 8,300-square-foot building and plan to expand the liquor store into the now-vacant parts of the building.
“We are moving into the majority of the building,” said Barnes. “We are under the impression that we will be the largest liquor store in the area.”
Right now, Barnes is in the process of rehabilitating the building. Crews have already tackled the parking area and landscaping islands and the building exterior is the next project. From there work will shift inside.
Barnes noted she has been involved with the wine and spirits business for 36 years and has been a valley resident for 34 years. She plans to have the new operation up and running by Thanksgiving.
“We are buying big, selling low and having fun — that’s who we are,” said Barnes.
Snow usually comes and goes in this part of the state. A forecasted storm is expected to stick around for a while. Forecasters are calling for snow to persist throughout the weekend in the high country, with a prospect of a couple of feet of powder by the time the storm starts to diminish on Monday.
