The guys at Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited love to fish, so what could be more natural than to host a fishing tournament to benefit their organization?
That kind of thinking resulted in plans for the Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited Upper Colorado Fall Classic, planned Saturday, Oct. 4. In addition to the fishing, there will be festivities for the whole family.
The action will actually get under way at Crazy Mountain Brewery on Friday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. when competitors get together to draw teams and starting orders for the Saturday tournament. On Oct. 4, boats and rafts will launch from either the Pumphouse or State Bridge sites along the upper Colorado. Launches will begin at 8 a.m. in randomly drawn order. Teams must return by 2 p.m. During that 6-hour stretch, some serious fishing will be done and points will be awarded for the number of fish caught and the size of the best two fish.
Once the fishermen come off the river, it will be time to party. The Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited Hopperfest will feature a free live concert at Eagle Town Park. There will be kids games (tickets required) and food prepared by Moe’s Original Barbeque for sale. Bonfire Brewery beers will also be available for purchase. Teams, sponsors and winners will be announced at Hopperfest.
“We would like to have more participants in this year’s fishing competition,” said organizers Brian Bloess. “The cost is $500 per boat for a team of two.”
