Enjoy Home for the Holidays in Gypsum

The town of Gypsum, Gypsum Recreation Center, Gypsum Fire Auxiliary and Gypsum Public Library are teaming up to present Home for the Holidays Saturday, Dec. 13.

The event will begin at the rec center for a free open house from 3 to 5 p.m. The gymnastics room will be open, the pool will be flowing and inflatables will fill the gymnasium for the kids.

“It is our eighth anniversary and we invite the public to come in and enjoy our facilities,” said Anna Englehart, GRC operations manager.



Sip, the newest addition to the rec center, will be open for warm coffee beverages and treats.

Following the GRC open house, at 5 p.m., walk over to the shelter in front of the Gypsum Library for the town holiday celebration. The Gypsum Fire Auxiliary will be serving complimentary hot chili, cocoa and coffee donated by Sip. If there’s snow on the ground, the snowball chucker will be available for the kids to launch snowballs in a safe environment. Warm the hands at the fire pits and enjoy Christmas carols performed by the Eagle Valley High School Choir. Some of Santa’s live reindeer will be at the site as well.

At approximately 5:15pm, Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive on the on a Gypsum Fire truck. Kids of all ages are welcome to visit with Santa.

The countdown for the community tree lighting will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed music from local vocalist Emily Kingston.

Event go’ers can get out of the cold and warm up with a cookie and some cocoa fireside and enjoy readings of the “Night Before Christmas” at 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. at the Gypsum Library.

Following the tree lighting ceremony, the winner of the annual Gypsum Holiday Lighting Contest will be announced. Judges will be scanning the neighborhoods of Gypsum from Dec. 1-8 to award winners in the following categories: Best Overall, Griswold Award and Ever “Green” Award. Winners will receive cash, Costco Gift Cards and the Ever”green” winners will receive a credit toward their electric bill.
