Ski Sunlight opens

Sunlight Mountain Resort opens for the 2014-15 season on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Artisan Winter Market

The Artisan Winter Market takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Glenwood Springs Community Center (100 Wulfsohn Road).

This one day craft, bakery and gift market will include a kids creation station, great gifts, jewelry, photography, fine woodwork, local honey and much more. Grab lunch at the fair with offerings including mac and cheese, soup and salad. For more information, call 970-945-5562.

Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race

On Sunday, Dec. 7, the Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race occurs at Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort.

This year marks the 23rd annual Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race. Ann Hopkinson and Fletcher Anderson started the race in 1991 to honor the servicemen who lost their lives in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Over time the event developed into a benefit race for the animal shelters around Garfield and Pitkin County. Each year 100 or more racers participate and the proceeds are divided between Colorado Animal Rescue, Rifle Dog Pound, Animal Rescue Foundation, and Mid-Valley Animal Rescue.

Registration for the race can be done locally before race day at Summit Canyon Mountaineering (8th and Grand in Glenwood Springs) and Independence Run and Hike in Carbondale for a pre-registration fee of $20. Day of race registration is $22 and will take place in the back of the Day Lodge at Sunlight Mountain Resort at 9 a.m. The race begins at 10 a.m. Registration includes T-shirt.

Handel’s Messiah

Aspen Choral Society presents its 37th annual production of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Advance tickets at are $15 or tickets are $20 at the door.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs First United Methodist Church.

Ski, Swim and Stay

The Hot Springs Lodge is offering a Ski, Swim and Stay package.

Ski or board at Sunlight Mountain Resort for the day and then soak in the world’s largest hot springs pool. One kid (12 and under) per paying adult will receive a free lift ticket. There are no frills, just great snow and the amenities you need at half the price of the luxury resorts.

Package is available Dec. 6, 2014 to April 5, 2015. There are no free kid’s ski lift tickets during blackout dates: Dec. 25, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015.

The package includes: lodging in your choice of accommodations, full hot breakfast served at the poolside grill, unlimited hot springs pool access with stay, one Sunlight Mountain lift ticket per night (per adult), one free lift ticket for kids,12 and under, per night (per paying adult), transportation to and from mountain (set times).
