Habitat for Humanity launches final phase of $6M ‘World of Hope’ campaign
About Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties
Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties was founded in 1995. The affiliate has served 42 families so far housing over 120 children. For more information or to donate or volunteer go to http://www.HabitatVailValley.org, or call 970-748-6718.
The local Habitat for Humanity affiliate is trying to wrap a $6 million fundraising drive and needs $100,000 to put them over the top.
The World of Hope campaign will wrap up by the end of the year. It’s designed to create a consistent funding source for the local Habitat affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties.
Every dollar raised is leveraged through volunteer services, donated materials, grants and mortgage payments from current Habitat homeowners. As the mortgage portfolio grows, Habitat is able to put more families in affordable housing, Emily Peyton, family services director at Habitat for Humanity.
“Building and owning their own home often rekindles hope and increases confidence in our partner families,” Peyton said. “We have seen that this positive impact translates into improvements in the health and education of a family.”
Six families are currently living in Habitat homes in Stratton Flats, in Gypsum, and six more homes are in the final stages of construction. They plan to continue building homes in the valley, Peyton said.
“We have a tremendous opportunity through this campaign to secure additional home sites at current market rates,” said John Welaj, executive director of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
