What: Organizational meeting for the 2014 Eagle County Relay for Life

When: Thursday, May 15

Time: 6 p.m.

Where: 247 Ring Neck, Eagle

Details: The meeting is open for anyone and everyone who has already volunteered to help out, and those who missed the meeting earlier this year. Organizers Paul and Mary Witt need committee chairs and helpers. The Relay for Life event is scheduled Aug. 2-3 at Eagle Valley High School. For more information contact pwitt@vail.net.

Eagle Outside Festival Kickoff Block Party

What: Live music pre-event party

When: Friday, May 16

Time: 4 p.m. start. Live music at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Bonfire Brewing Company at 127 Second Street in Eagle

Details: Each party go’er will receive one free beer if he or she arrives by bike. For Eagle Outside Festival competitors, packet pickup is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. at Addison Building on corner of Capitol and Sylvan Lake Road in downtown Eagle Ranch.

What: Mountain bike races, trail races, equipment demos, guided rides and more

Where: Eagle Open Space Trails network and Eagle Ranch Village

What: The Eagle River Youth Coalition’s Family Jam and Plan resource event gives parents a chance to learn about summer programs and youth serving organizations here in the Vail Valley.

What: Author event hosted by Eagle Valley Library District

When: Saturday, May 17

Time: 2 p.m.

Where: The Pines Lodge at Beaver Creek.

Details: Featured authors Susanna Daniel, Karen Joy Fowler and John Searles will discuss their work individually and participate in a question and answer session. Hors d’ouevres and a cash bar will be available. Sustainable Community Film Series

What: Featured film is “Minds in the Water.”

Details: “Minds in the Water” is an award winning documentary following the quest of professional surfer Dave Rastovich and his friends to protect dolphins, whales and the oceans they all share. A $5 donation is suggested.

Boneyard Brawl Mountain Bike Race

What: Vail Recreation District bike series race

When: Thursday, May 22

Time: Registration begins at 4:45 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Boneyard Trail, parking at Eagle Valley Middle/Elementary School lots

Details: The Boneyard Brawl will take riders up Bellyache road and down the East Eagle Trail single track. Kid participants will ascend Bellyache Road for 1.5 miles and down the Boneyard single track. The after race party is planned at The Dusty Boot and the event website is http://www.vailrec.com.
