Penny Pinching

What: The Eagle County Historical Society will unveil its new penny-pincher

When: Thursday, May 22

Time: 3 to 6 p.m.

Where: Eagle Regional Visitor Information Center

Details: The new machine will provide funding for the Eagle County Historical Society. Users can pay 50 cents and choose one of four local designs for a collectible stamped penny. Event will include tours of the ECHS Museum on site.

Boneyard Brawl Mountain Bike Race

What: Vail Recreation District bike series race

When: Thursday, May 22

Time: Registration begins at 4:45 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Boneyard Trail, parking at Eagle Valley Middle/Elementary School lots

Details: The Boneyard Brawl will take riders up Bellyache road and down the East Eagle Trail single track. Kid participants will ascend Bellyache Road for 1.5 miles and down the Boneyard single track. The after race party is planned at The Dusty Boot and the event website is http://www.vailrec.com.

EVHS Dance Team Camp

What: Local girls in kindergarten through fifth grade can celebrate the last day of school at the EVHS Dance Team Annual Slumber Soiree.

When: Thursday, May 29

Time: 4 p.m.

Where: Town of Gypsum annex building

Details: Girls will learn a dance routine, have a pizza dinner, tell stories, and spend the night with the Devil Dancers. A light breakfast will be served in the morning, and girls will be sent home with a CD of their routine music. Youth Baseball Opening Day

What: Western Eagle County Metropolitan Recreation District will host an opening day festival for 600 youth baseball and softball participants.

Where: WECMRD fields in Eagle

Detail: The day includes speed pitch and radar gun, concessions, raffle tickets and prizes, Eagle Fire trucks, carnival games, business booths, face painting, dunk tank, Rockies skill challenge, character appearances and inflatable bounce castle.

Vail Opening Day 2019 provides blueprint for Vail Resorts’ sustainability efforts

Company officials say every aspect of Vail management is now focused on attaining the company’s goal of achieving a zero net operating footprint by 2030. Vail Resorts calls the plan their “Commitment to Zero,” and defines it a zero net carbon emissions by 2030, zero waste to landfills, and zero operating impact on forests and natural habitat.
