More than 50 local players and Eagle Chamber members, recently gathered at the 18th green of the Eagle Ranch Golf Course during the Screaming Eagle Golf Tournament, witnessed local John Swanson sink an amazing 50-foot putt to win $10,000 provided by US Hole-in-One, the insurance company issuing contest coverage for the event.

“It was an amazing effort on a splendid day at Eagle Ranch,” said Eagle Ranch Director of Golf Jeff Boyer. “We are always pleased to host the annual Screaming Eagle Golf Tournament for the Eagle Chamber of Commerce and it’s super exciting for one of our participants to actually win a prize of this magnitude.”

All of the 132 players in the 18th annual Screaming Eagle Tournament had an opportunity to qualify for the chance to win $10,000 by sinking an initial fifteen-foot putt. After the conclusion of the scramble play, nine qualifiers participated in a semi-final to determine the 50-foot contest finalist. Swanson moved up through the ranks and then faced a putt lined up exactly 50 feet away from a special cup that had been installed on the 18th green.

Representatives of Mesa Turf Masters, the sponsor of the putting contest, were joined by enthusiastic friends and competitors as Swanson addressed the ball. As the ball hit the back of the cup and dropped in, the gallery rushed the green, whooping and hollering their enthusiasm for the winner. The moment was captured in a YouTube video.

Swanson was understandably ecstatic.

“This is more money than the winner of the Colorado Golf Open wins,” he said. “Thanks to the Eagle Chamber for hosting this event.”

Swanson was presented with a commemorative check on the 18th green at Eagle Ranch Golf Course, the site of his once-in-a-lifetime feat. Presenting the check was Jim Ash, president of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Screaming Eagle Golf Tournament and Eagle RanchHead Golf Professional Nate Corsbie.

Look forward to another opportunity to try your luck at winning another $10,000 at the For The Future Golf Tournament this fall, planned Sept. 12. The event is a joint venture of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce, the Gypsum Chamber of Commerce and the Eagle Valley Homebuilders Association and this year’s tournament sponsor – Century Link.
