The town of Eagle launched hearings for the Haymeadow project — a 660-acre property located east and south of the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink parcel.

Tom Moorhead retired as a District Court judge.

Jake’s Liquor in Gypsum was given the green light to reopen after getting busted twice in one year for selling alcohol to minors. After several sting operations, and the store getting new management, they were set to sell again.

Eagle County government was projected to spend $7.3 million less in 2014 than it did in 2013.

The Four Rivers Historical Alliance printed 5,000 maps of historical sites across three counties, including Eagle County.

Week of Dec. 17, 2009

The Enterprise featured a front-page story about the Eagle Valley Humane Society foster care program. Foster volunteers provided special attention and care at home prior to animals being placed in a permanent home.

Opponents of the Eagle River Station project outspent supporters of the project by almost $20,000, spending a total of $34,000 in the weeks leading up to a community vote for the issue.

Eagle was one of only five Colorado municipalities selected to work with the University of Colorado Denver’s sustainable infrastructure experiments in a community outreach program.

After the Eagle Valley Lions Club arranged for a visit in downtown Eagle, Santa reported that there was a high population of local good boys and girls.

The Eagle County 4-H club was giving local kids a chance to experience a jail lockdown to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The event was to take place in the unoccupied, new wing of the jail, and was for kids ages 10 to 18-years-old.

The Catholic Charities’ Immigrant Advocacy was helping area residents navigate legal, medical and governmental issues.

Former Denver Bronco Reggie Rivers was set to speak in Eagle and Gypsum at three different engagements to address Latino youth in the valley. The outreach program’s goal was to get more kids interested in sports and other activities.

The Eagle Valley High School Nordic ski team, coached by Glen Ewing, was set to travel to Steamboat Springs for its first meet.

The Eagle Combined Clerk’s Office, was recognized with the Colorado Judicial Branch’s Outstanding Team Award.

Local attorneys were preparing EVHS students for a mock trial competition at the Eagle County Courthouse.

The Thanksgiving Day community walk, staged locally to aid the hungry in Darfur, Sudan, raised nearly $6,000.

Week of Dec. 15, 1994

Local resort communities were banding together to form the “Rural Resort Region,” an organization addressing community concerns such as affordable housing, transportation, and childcare.

The Gypsum Town Council approved the sketch plan for the proposed Valley Airpark commercial development.

Eagle Mayor Bill Cunningham flipped the switch on the town’s new Christmas lights to kick off the Christmas on Broadway celebration.

Representatives of City Market confirmed that they were examining two potential sites in Eagle for a new grocery store.

Week of Dec. 20, 1984

Basalt town officials rejected a proposal by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office for provision of law enforcement services within the town limits.

Glen Ewing Sports, a cross-country ski shop, opened in the space on the lower level of Alpine Bank. Local archaeologist Mike Metcalf was managing the shop, and running his archeological business out of the space.

A new radio station, KZYR, made its debut in Avon, featuring a music format of adult rock-and-roll and classic rock.

40 YEARS AGO

Week of Dec. 19, 1974

Following numerous protests from citizens, the Eagle Town Board dropped provisions of an ordinance that would have prohibited drinking on the street.

A proposal for creation of a county landfill near the Eagle County Airport failed, after the Federal Aviation Administration objected. FAA officials argued that landfills draw birds, which could be a hazard for pilots.

The Charles Case family of Eagle marked 25 years in the Christmas tree business. Case estimated that he had harvested about 4,000 trees from the Minturn and Eagle ranger districts.

50 YEARS AGO

Week of Dec. 17, 1964

Eagle’s central business district took on a new look, with remodels at First National Bank, Stanley’s Cash Grocery, and a new office building in the old Morgan Pool Hall.

Mrs. Nan Hoyt of Wolcott, Bernard Reimann of McCoy, Mrs. John Tolbert, Claire Bertroch, and George Rankin each won $10 in “Trade certificates” in an Eagle Chamber of Commerce promotion.

Santa was slated to fly into the Eagle County Airport on December 19. Local children were invited to be his guests at a showing of free movies at the Eagle Theater.

Kathy Schmidt and Bob (Sam) Johnson were named the outstanding citizens at Eagle Valley High School.

Week of Dec. 16, 1954

Two murder trials were on the docket in Eagle District Court. Edwards resident Bill Wellington was to be tried in January for the slaying of his brother-in-law, Benny Platt of Edwards. Also set for trial was Bes Martinez, accused of shooting Red Cliff tavern owner Perfecto Cruz.

Early snowfall was giving rise to hope that a several-year drought was about to end.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were slated to call on homes on Brush Creek and throughout town on Christmas Eve.

70 YEARS AGO

Week of Dec. 15, 1944

In service news, Pvt. Jack Hill was spending a furlough with his wife and parents. He had been training at Camp Fannin, TX. Pvt. Roy Stout and Pvt. Bud Eaton were also home on furlough.

The Eagle Theater was showing the movie “Double Indemnity” starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Edward Robinson.

80 YEARS AGO

Week of Dec. 21, 1934

The Eagle Garden Club was sponsoring a holiday lighting and decoration contest.

The Eagle County Cattle Growers chose F.L. Newcomer as the association president.
