Vail Pass lane closures ahead as CDOT begins I-70 resurfacing project

Project will include upcoming eastbound lane closure on West Vail Pass
Work has begun on an Interstate 70 West Vail Pass resurfacing project and upcoming eastbound lane closures are expected for about two weeks.
“The project will take place on I-70, from just east of Vail to just east of the Vail Pass summit,” according to a Colorado Department of Transportation news release.
The project, with partner Elam Construction, will include a hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlay, maintenance repairs to several bridge decks, and installing guardrail that meets new safety standard requirements, CDOT said.
The eastbound, fulltime lane closure, for concrete work, will begin the week of April 12 and be completed as quickly as possible, the release said. Additional project work will include rumble strip installation, striping, drainage improvements, sign installation and erosion control.
“CDOT continues to work diligently to improve I-70 on Vail Pass,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew in the release. “We completed the Vail East to West improvements last winter, and this next project is an important step towards improving the customer experience on this rugged, remote section of a critical section of roadway.”
