Avon parking woes

Citing an incipient parking problem in town, Avon council members voted in favor of leasing a new lot on town-owned land near Christy Sports.

The lot will be built and maintained by Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate, who owns much of the commercial property in town east of Avon Road. Hoffmann will hold a 99-year lease on the land and will build the parking lot for an estimated $150,000.

CMC success

Colorado Mountain College reported it now has eleven campuses in an area that covers 12,000 square miles and thirteen school districts.

Dual enrollment for high school kids, along with the 4-year programs offered, have made CMC a model nationally for other small colleges.

Fugitive found in Tennessee

Avon police tracked down Michael Glass in Tennessee.

Glass is charged with attempted murder and hit-and-run last year of Avon resident Alfonzo Palma. Palma was found by another motorist, and that motorist saved his life.

Bear Hunt

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers are investigating the death of a female bear that was discovered along the Babbish Gulch Trail near Sunlight Mountain Resort.

The bear’s cub was found lingering near the carcass, and was successfully captured by wildlife officers who plan to release the healthy cub into the wild.
