Aspen Summer Dance

The Aspen Summer Dance Festival hosts the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet on July 17 – 19 from 8 to 10 p.m.

Underwritten by Bebe and David Schweppe, this is the only appearance this summer of “Square None,” choreographed by Princess Grace Award winner Norbert de la Crus III, the poetic “Return to a Strange Land” by master choreographer Jiri Kylian, and the newest creation “The Heart(s) Pace” by Nicolo Fonte.

Cruise-A-Thong

On Saturday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Veltus Park, the Glenwood Springs Cruise-a-Thong is a race of the Average Jo(e).

It’s a triathlon designed for the not-so-hardcore athlete, and the course consists of three legs; a cruiser bike ride (or other self propelled method of transportation) loop from Veltus park along the Roaring Fork River. Next, a thong (that is to say, “flip-flop”) walk down Midland Avenue. Lastly, a tube float (or other flotation device) down the Roaring Fork river. Following the race is an after party which consists of live music, refreshments, food and a ceremony to award the most average race time.



River Cleanup and Community Barbecue

The Glenwood Springs River Commission’s River Cleanup and Community Barbecue is Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from Centennial Drive on Devereux Road.

Volunteers are needed to pick up trash along the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers in Glenwood Springs and Glenwood Canyon. Volunteers will work from shore and from boats. Boaters are urged to participate.

After the cleanup, volunteers will be treated to a barbecue and picnic with food donated by local restaurants. Two Rivers Park is the location for volunteers to check in and receive assignments. The midday barbecue for volunteers will also be at Two Rivers Park. Walk or ride your bike. Parking is limited.

Magical Momments

The Magical Moments Summer Concert Series on Saturday July 19, from 6. to 8 p.m. will feature musician Kraig Kenning at Redstone Park in Redstone.

Savage Lake Hike

The Savage Lake Hike takes place on Sunday, July 20 beginning at 8 a.m.

Savage Lake is near Aspen and hikers are encouraged to bring their bathing suits and hiking boots for this beautiful hike with the Wilderness Workshop.

Summer of Music

The Glenwood Springs Summer of Music welcomes back, by popular the demand, the March Fourth Marching Band with the Missing Link Band as the opening act.
