White River National Forest offers Christmas tree permits
White River National Forest Christmas tree permits are now available at area ranger district offices.
Forest Service ranger districts on the White River National Forest offer permits for sale but no permits will be available for sale at the supervisor’s office. A permit allows members of public to cut a Christmas tree for personal use on national forest lands, as authorized on the permit and the accompanying maps.
Persons cutting trees must have a valid permit in their possession when cutting a tree and once the tree is cut the permit must be attached to the tree. Forest service permits are only valid for trees located on National Forest system lands. Permit costs $10 per tree.
Permits come with information explaining regulations and also giving helpful tips. The national forest offices also sell maps and offer free advice on the best areas for tree harvesting, species availability, travel management requirements and any other restrictions of note. No cutting is permitted in campgrounds or other recreation/facility sites, Wilderness and/or near lakes, streams or in wetland areas.
All Forest Service offices will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Sales for the Aspen-Sopris Ranger Station will not begin until Nov. 28. Forest Service Road 300 off of Four Mile is a preferred cutting location for the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District. Thanks to Rocky Mountain Natural Gas and Garfield County for plowing the road to make it accessible for Christmas Tree harvesting!
