Eagle wildland fire is contained

Special to the Daily | Karen FosterCrews have contained the Nielson Gulch fire near Eagle that began burning near Cottonwood Creek Wednesday afternoon.The fire, which crews say ignited because of lightning that previously struck in the area, was about 2 1/2 acres Wednesday night when crews contained it within a perimeter at 9:56 p.m., said Kim Miller, spokeswoman for the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit. Miller said crews expected to have the fire completely under control by Thursday night. The fire, about 2.5 miles north of Eby Creek Mesa, burned primarily in pinyon pine and juniper vegetation. No structures have been in danger and there were no evacuations because of the fire as of Thursday evening. This photo was taken Wednesday from the Upper Kaibab area.
