VAIL, Colorado ” A celebration of life service for Earl Eaton, the founder of Vail Mountain who passed away earlier this year, will be at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at Wildwood Shelter at the top of Vail Mountain.

The Eaton family invites friends and community members to the service to celebrate Eaton’s life and commemorate his vision of the perfect ski mountain.

Wildwood is where Eaton and Peter Seibert arrived after their famous hike to what is now Vail’s original Back Bowl.

The service will be followed by a reception at Wildwood.

Guests planning to attend the service are asked to either bring their valid ski pass or stop by the ticket office in Mountain Plaza to pick up a complimentary lift ticket and then board the Vista Bahn Chairlift beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the Wildwood Express Lift to reach Wildwood Shelter.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Those who require special assistance should call Vail Group Sales at 970-754-4501 to arrange for transportation from the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to Eagle’s Nest at the top of the gondola.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards or the Colorado Ski Museum in Vail. Shaw contribution checks should be made out to the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation and include “Earl Eaton Memorial” in the reference line. Donations may be mailed to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, P.O. Box 1529, Vail, CO 81658.

Contributions in Earl’s memory may also be sent to the Colorado Ski Museum, attention “Eaton Memorial”, P.O. Box 1976, Vail, CO 81658.
