Earthquake relief effort raises $12,000

Daily Staff Report

EAGLE COUNTY ” Despite the spendy holiday season, philanthropists in the Vail Valley dug deep to donate to the Pakistan Earthquake Relief fund started by Andrew Gallup.

In the first week of January, the fund collected $12,000 that will go toward building houses for the homeless in the village of Chittabatta in Pakistan. Gallup adopted Chittabatta in the Vail Valley’s name, and is working to build homes there as villagers battle winter snows and temperatures.

Gallup was pleased by the strong start but said there was much left to do. For more information, call Gallup at 376-2126.
