RULISON, Colorado ” Both eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 west of Exit 81 at Rulison are currently closed due to a large sink hole.

Colorado Department of Transportation crews closed the lanes last night at approximately 7:20 p.m. and worked through the night trying to repair the problem and determine the cause. They will continue working through the day, filling and repairing a sink hole, and expect the lanes to be open again later Thursday evening.

Traffic is being detoured onto US 60 from Exit 81 to Exit 87 west of Rifle.

According to CDOT spokeswoman Nancy Shanks the sink hole was about six feet in diameter and eight inches deep when crews found it Wednesday night.

Crews excavated last night to approximately 35 feet in diameter and 8 feet deep, to better examine the subsurface and to determine that there are no other voids.

This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

There will be single lane closures for westbound I-70 traffic to allow for crews to drill test bores to investigate other possible voids.
