Eaton Ranch fund-raiser features Udall, Fielder
EAGLE COUNTY ” The Eaton Ranch fund-raising campaign has its first event out of the valley Monday.
The Denver chapter of Trout Unlimited is putting on a fund-raising party for the Eaton Ranch, also known as the Eagle River Preserve, in Denver.
In addition to drinks, snacks, and a silent auction, the evening’s featured speakers are U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, the Boulder Democrat who represents Eagle County, and famed nature photographer John Fielder.
Both were early supporters of the ranch’s purchase as open space.
For Fielder, Monday’s event is one of many he participates in every year.
“I probably do between 40 and 50 slide shows a year, and another 30 book signings,” Fielder said. Every time those events raise money for a nonprofit group, Fielder gives 40 percent of the total money collected to that group.
The slide show Monday will feature photos from Fielder’s latest book, “Mountain Ranges of Colorado.”
Monday’s fund-raiser came as a pleasant surprise for Ceil Folz, director of the Vail Valley Foundation, which has been raising money to buy the 72-acre Eaton Ranch property.
“They came to us,” Folz said. “We were thrilled and delighted to have the support of Trout Unlimited. They’ve been a great champion for this.”
While the Denver fund-raiser is the first Eaton Ranch event held outside the valley, Folz said the fFundation has already received several out-of-town checks.
“We’ve had a lot of support from people who vacation here,” she said. “That’s been a pleasant surprise.”
