Edwards attorney drops bid for House
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Edwards attorney Rohn Robbins said Sunday that he has withdrawn from the race for the State House of Representatives seat that represents Eagle County.
Party officials have been looking for someone to take Rep. Dan Gibbs’ place as representative for House District 56, which includes Eagle, Summit and Lake counties.
Gibbs, Eagle County’s Democratic state representative, was appointed Nov. 19 to fill the place of Colorado Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, who resigned in November to run for Congress.
Robbins, who ran as a Democrat, said he wanted to spend more time with his two sons before they go to college.
He also could not afford to dedicate enough time to the House seat and, at the same time, pay for college for his sons and niece, he said.
“The district deserves somebody that can make this their sole focus,” he said.
Robbins will continue to practice law and do his weekly radio show on current events, policy and politics on KZYR 97.7, he said.
“I hope to be involved and contribute in other ways,” he said.
Robbins hopes he can run for the House District “sometime in the future,” he said.
A vacancy committee has 10 days from the time Gibbs resigns to appoint a replacement. Candidates must be nominated and then submit their names to be considered.
Several other local democrats are considering the position.
