Edwards Elementary has new principal

EDWARDS – Heidi Hanssen has been selected as new principal for Edwards Elementary School. Hanssen, a former teacher at Minturn Elementary School, is the principal at West Park Elementary in Leadville.”We believe Heidi will do a great job at Edwards and we are very excited to bring her back home to Eagle County Schools,” Superintendent John Brendza said. “I am excited to get back to Eagle County Schools,” Hanssen said. “It’s my home and my community and I believe in where the district is going. Edwards Elementary School is moving in such an exciting direction in becoming a dual-language magnet school. I look forward to working with the teachers to make this move successful.Hanssen taught at Minturn Middle School from 1999 to 2003. From 2003 to 2004, she was a master teacher, and from 2002 to 2003, she was a mentor teacher. She also was the head of the social studies department head and the advisor for the gifted and talented program. Hanssen got her bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College in Minnesota and her master’s degree from Adams State College in Denver. At Edwards, she succeeds Cyndy Secrist, who will be the principal at Eagle Valley Elementary next school year. Vail, Colorado
