EDWARDS — No excuses are necessary to make a celebration out of Friday afternoon. Like many other artistic communities across the country, Edwards has jumped on board to make the first Friday of the month extra special.

First Friday returns to the Riverwalk Backyard Amphitheatre in Edwards beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with free live music and booth bonanza featuring local beer, wine and food vendors.

Music kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with Denver’s infamous party starters, Otone Brass Band. Carrying the heat and horns of New Orleans, the eight-piece ensemble’s heavy bass is delivered by sousaphone and the brass section is a powerhouse of trombone, two trumpets and a pair of saxophones. With plenty of percussion, the sound is soaring and upbeat, difficult to hear without moving your feet.

Produced by Vail Jazz and KZYR 97.7 The Zephyr and sponsored by Alpine Bank, the inaugural First Fridays series kicked off in June with a throng of families, passing cyclists, shoppers and happy hour seekers. By July, the First Friday crowd doubled. Organizers are expecting big things for this Friday’s event, which features an offering of children’s activities and vendor promotions with a fun theme of “Something Fishy.”

“The goal from the beginning with Riverwalk First Fridays was to utilize this ideal new music venue and to give Edwards families a great reason to get together and enjoy incredible music, beer, wine, food and good company,” said Vail Jazz Development Manager Owen Hutchinson. “At this point in the summer, we’re thrilled to see that the series is doing exactly that, becoming one of the valley’s best ways to kick back on a special Friday.”

Although Otone Brass Band closes out its amphitheater performance at 7:30 p.m., the celebratory vibe continues at Main Street Grill with an after party and more live music.

Picnics are welcome at First Fridays, but no pets are allowed or lawn chairs with legs more than four inches tall. The event is non-smoking. For more information, call 800-VAIL-JAM or visithttp://www.vailjazz.org.
