Edwards gets new design guidelines
Edwards, CO Colorado
EDWARDS, Colorado ” After more than a year of planning, county officials have adopted a document they hope will give Edwards, Colorado a more uniform look.
The document referred to as the Edwards Design Guidelines is now part of the Edwards area community plan, which provides some suggestions for design and layout of new development in Edwards, said County Senior Planner Cliff Simonton.
“It’s sort of all geared toward making Edwards function a little bit better and appear a little bit better,” Simonton said.
The document covers everything from parking and traffic, to architecture, the color of buildings and the use of open space.
“One of the things we learned was that people are not necessarily opposed to an eclectic mix of architectural features,” Simonton said. “They didn’t mind having some variety so we focused our attention on the streetscape, the signs, the landscaping, those kinds of things.”
The proposed set of design guidelines would not be rules. The county commissioners would consider whether future developments gel with the guidelines when approving proposals.
“It’ll be some time before you would see much,” Simonton said. “There’s not a lot of major development going on.”
