Daily staff report
VAIL CO, Colorado
Special to the DailyShana McQueen

Shana McQueen recently joined the Riverwalk Natural Health Clinic. She is doing residency with Dr. Deborah Wiancek, owner and founder of Riverwalk Natural Health Clinic and Pharmacy. McQueen earned her doctorate degree from Bastyr University, a world leader in naturopathic medical training. Prior to medical school, she completed an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Utah.

Naturopathic doctors are the most highly trained primary care physicians in natural medicine. McQueen enjoys working with people and conditions of all kinds. Areas of special interest include digestive and skin conditions, allergies, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic pain and hormonal imbalances.

One of McQueen’s primary goals for her patients is to prevent illness through proper diet and lifestyle. When symptoms have already developed in a person, McQeen views them as helpful messengers from the body, indicating a problem at a deeper lever that needs to be addressed. With a thorough intake, physical exam, and appropriate lab testing, McQueen is trained to interpret the body’s messages and find the underlying cause(s) of symptoms. Once the underlying cause is found, specific and effective natural therapies are introduced to support the body in returning to a state of balance. Some of McQueen’s favorite therapies include herbal medicine, nutrition, lifestyle modification, craniosacral therapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy and natural hormones. Her ultimate goal is to educate, empower and guide her patients, supporting them as they walk their unique paths toward optimal wellness, she said.
