Edwards’ Madrigal Dinner Theater a spin-off of ‘Robin the Hood’

EDWARDS – Draw your swords, load your bow and arrow, and dust off your tights and medieval gowns on Friday for the Battle Mountain High School “Madrigal Dinner Theater.” The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. in the common area of Battle Mountain High School.

A madrigal dinner is an American form of dinner theater often held by schools during the holiday season. Directed by BMHS music teacher Sheresa Wilbanks and co-directed by Cooter Overcash and Bailey Garton, this Renaissance festival-style production will be a spinoff of “Robin the Hood” and promises to be both entertaining and comedic in nature. Festive elegant attire is strongly encouraged.

Nearly 50 Battle Mountain students are involved in the production and will sport velvet and lace galore as they imitate a variety of characters, including jesters, minstrels, merry men and more. The presentation of the boar’s head promises to be one of the highlights of the show.

The meal is divided into courses, each of which is heralded with traditional song. Throughout the course of the evening, a play will be performed between the courses and a concert of choral music will conclude the festivities.

Catered by Chase Wilbands, the former executive chef of La Tour, the menu will include roasted heirloom squash, grilled romaine, candied hazelnuts, goat cheese and brown butter balsamic vinaigrette for the first course, beef winter vegetable stew (a vegetarian option will be available) for the second course and dried fig bread pudding with spiced cream angalise and chantilly creme for dessert.

The preshow starts at 6:30 p.m., and the show and dinner begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $28 per person for dinner and show (adults only strongly encouraged) and can be purchased by contacting Linda Overcash at 970-389-0736 or linda02145@hotmail.com. Seating is limited, and tickets are presale only.
