Edwards naturopath: Spring means time to detox
VAIL CO, Colorado
Spring and fall are the perfect times to do a detoxification program. With the changing of the seasons it’s a great time to lose the extra few pounds that most of us put on during the winter season.
Why detox? We live in an extremely toxic world that makes it impossible to completely avoid eating, drinking and breathing without coming in contact with toxins from our environment. We’re exposed daily to toxins from pesticides in our foods, heavy metals in our water, chemically-laden cosmetics, body products and cleaning products, car exhaust, alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs and electromagnetic radiation from computers, cell phones, televisions and microwaves.
Today more than ever our bodies are in need of periodic detoxification. Common symptoms of toxicity can include fatigue, anxiety, depression, weight gain, allergies, joint pain, brain fog, memory loss, inability to focus, diarrhea, constipation, gas, skin rashes, recurrent yeast and fungal infections.
A good detox program should include a cleansing diet; herbal and supplement protocol to cleanse the liver, lungs, colon and skin; physical therapies such as hydrotherapy, sauna’s and baths; relaxation such as deep breathing and meditation; and mental, emotional and spiritual exploration like setting new goals and journaling.
As you reduce your toxin intake and increase the amount of toxins leaving your body, your toxic load will begin to drop. Many of the symptoms that you had will slowly decrease and disappear. As your toxic load diminishes your mitochondrial power plants in each cell will begin to function better, giving you more energy and improved mental clarity and they will burn the fat you’d been putting into storage.
The toxins in our environment aren’t going away any time soon, and many of these fat soluble persistent toxins don’t leave our bodies without help. Clearly, as the world around us becomes more and more toxic, we have to continue to protect ourselves with diets and home environments that are as unpolluted as possible. As we continue to minimize our toxic load, our health will continue to improve.
