Edwards speaker to tell how drugs ruined careers

EDWARDS ” Motivational speaker Mark Horvath with talk about how substance abuse destroyed his chance at a hockey career and his early successes in business.

Horvath will speak at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Vail Christian High School in Edwards. The talk is free.

Horvath was among the leading goal scorers in Minnesota his senior year of high school and was the captain of an undefeated state championship team in 1983. But drug and alcohol abuse later cost him his college scholarship, any chance at playing pro hockey, a promising business career and many relationships.

After 23 years of chemical abuse, more than a dozen arrests and multiple treatments Horvath says he has had a successful recovery.. He currently is the men’s program director of Serenity Village, a faith-based ministry that provides transitional housing for recovering addicts. In addition, Mark is a full-time father to his 6-year-old daughter and is an account manager in the transportation/logistics Industry.
