Edwards’ Youth Foundation’s KidSTRONG wins grant

EDWARDS, Colorado – The Youth Foundation in Edwards won a $500 United Health Care HEROES grant for its KidSTRONG program.

The KidSTRONG program provides after school physical activity and nutrition education for elementary school children. It teaches 8- to 12-year-olds to eat healthier and engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity.

The Youth Foundation is one of four organizations across Colorado to receive a grant.

More than one in four children in Colorado is overweight or obese, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The grants are part of the UnitedHealth HEROES program, designed to encourage young people to help avoid childhood obesity. Grants were awarded to schools and youth-focused, community-based programs.
