It was not long ago that Edwards and Lake Creek were sleepy ranch communities, lying roughly 15 miles west of the popular ski resort of Vail. Edwards had a gas station, the Gashouse restaurant and not much else. Lake Creek featured a small residential community tucked away in its own idyllic enclave and far removed from any commercial or social offerings. Today, Edwards has emerged as one of the Vail Valley’s most bustling commercial centers and desirable residential neighborhoods. Recently voted as one of SKI magazine’s Best Ski Towns, people who live in Edwards are attracted to its wide-open spaces and a warmer climate. Lake Creek remains beautiful and secluded, and boasts some of the valley’s most remarkable homes and real estate.
Over the last 10 years, few areas in Eagle County have attracted more new residents than Edwards. The area has grown as longtime locals and new families have slowly made the move down valley, giving Edwards its unique personality. Edwards offers prefect opportunities for anyone, from first-time home owners to those looking for the home of their dreams.
With the influx of new residents, Edwards has grown significantly as a commercial center as well. The Riverwalk Shopping Center and adjacent Edwards Village are locals’ favorites, offering a collection of great restaurants and shopping options. The area also features the popular Riverwalk movie theater and the Edwards Village Market. A newly installed recreation path travels along the bank of the Eagle River making biking and jogging a scenic pleasure.
Located on the banks of the Eagle River, the Inn and Suites at Riverwalk offers moderately priced guest rooms and condominiums that are a perfect lodging alternative to staying in the higher priced, but still nearby, Vail and Beaver Creek villages.
Another testament to the growth of Edwards is the town’s wide variety of schools and churches. Six schools, religious and public, from pre-school through high school, are located within the area. These schools include: Edwards Elementary, St. Clair of Assisi (K-8), Vail Christian High School, Berry Creek Elementary, Berry Creek Middle School and Eagle County Charter Academy. Edwards is also home to seven churches providing places of worship for families of various religious backgrounds.
Located in one of the Vail area’s most serene mountain valleys, Lake Creek is just minutes from the business center of Edwards. With wide-open views of the towering New York Mountain Range and miles upon miles of open space and roaming wildlife, Lake Creek has a quiet country feel. Ranches dot the landscape, and homes range from simple single family to high-end luxury homes.
Lake Creek is very popular among families, with its quiet mountain roads and plenty of room for children to roam, and with 60 percent of the land dedicated as open space it promises to stay that way. Trailheads for scenic hiking lead out of Lake Creek and into the mountains. With its easy access to the multiple shops and restaurants of Edwards and secluded neighborhood feel, it is easy to see why many consider Lake Creek to be Eagle County’s best kept secret.
