AVON — Do you love yoga and want to take your practice further? Are you interested in sharing your love of the practice with others? Local expert Karen Anderson will offer an eight-week training course this fall at Synergy Center for Wellness in Avon. Anderson has been an avid yoga student for 20 years and has taught in the valley for 15 years. The training will be an exploration of the physical body, the energetic body and the mind, bringing the traditional practice into the modern context.
Anderson combines the traditions of alignment-based ashtanga yoga with devotional classical vinyasa and is influenced by Buddhist philosophy and practice. The eight-week training will include daily practice of poses, yogic breathing, chanting and meditation. The course will cover anatomy, philosophy and teaching methodology. Anderson specializes in teaching postural assessment and the appropriate hands-on adjustments to suit the individual.
Anderson has 800 hours of training with her primary teacher, Richard Freeman, and 300-hour advanced certification with Andrei Ram in the lineage of Dharma Mittra. She completed an 800-hour course on the history and philosophy of yoga with Georg Feuerstein. She is certified to teach meditation by Noah Levine in the lineage of Jack Kornfield.
The training will be held Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning Oct. 4 and ending Nov. 23. The cost of $3,000 includes all books and field trips. This training is registered with the Yoga Alliance.
