ELF suspect sentenced

SEATTLE ” A woman who took part in the Earth Liberation Front arson at the University of Washington was sentenced in federal court in Seattle to three years in prison.

The 33-year-old Spokane woman, Lacey Phillabaum, had pleaded guilty in October 2006 for helping firebomb the Center for Urban Horticulture where attackers mistakenly thought tree research would harm the environment.

Speaking in court Tuesday she warned activists against being pulled into a radical subculture that glamorizes arson. She says she’s ashamed she acted as a bully and a tyrant.

Phillabaum testified against another woman who took part in the arson, Briana Waters, who was sentenced in June to six years in prison.
