Elizabeth Dell Hamilton, 78, dies

Elizabeth Dell Hamilton, 78, passed away April 12 in Canon City.

Hamilton was born on March 31, 1929 in Paonia to the late Bradley and Dora (Decker) Ashmore. She married Donald R. Hamilton on November 10, 1956 in Paonia, where they lived until 1965.

While living in Paonia, Elizabeth was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge, The Christian Women’s Fellowship and volunteered in the school library and with the high school band in Minturn.



The couple spent a short time in Denver and moved to Minturn in 1968 and her previous volunteer work at the school led to her career as the head secretary at the Red Sandstone Elementary School in Vail.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Donald of Canon City; one daughter, Susan Bergquist of Woodland Park, Colo.; one son, Steven (Tamara) Hamilton of Gunnison; four grandchildren, Sara Bergquist, Kelsey (Lucas) Linford, Tara Hamilton, and Morgan Hamilton; and one sister, Lorraine (Bruce) Campbell of Laguna Beach, Calif. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 17 at Canon City Christian Church, 320 N. 5th St. with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Arrangements are being handled through the Holt Family Funeral Home, 806 Macon Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212.
