Elliott Wenzler started Monday as the new Western Slope political reporter for the Vail Daily and its sister publications in Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Steamboat Springs, Summit County and Grand County.

Based out of Denver, Wenzler will cover the state Capitol and Colorado’s congressional delegation with a focus on how policy impacts Western Slope residents. She’ll also report on campaign finance, candidates, races and issues such as water, housing, wildlife and public lands.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Elliott join our group of publications in the Colorado High Country to investigate and report on topics that matter to our readers,” said Vail Daily Editor Nate Peterson. “She’s done excellent work everywhere she’s been.”

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Wenzler has lived in Colorado since 2019. She previously covered state politics, water, housing, and other topics for The Colorado Sun. Her first job in the state was for Colorado Community Media, where she covered local politics, business, features and more in Douglas County. She’s interested in telling stories that give rich detail and necessary context to the issues that impact Coloradans’ lives.

Wenzler’s work has garnered awards from the Colorado Press Association and the Colorado Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Her story on a malfunctioning sewage system in Castle Pines earned a first-place award in the most recent Colorado Press Association Better News Media Contest for environmental reporting. Wenzler has also been featured in various outlets for her reporting, including on Colorado Public Radio’s show “Colorado Matters” and the podcast “City Cast.”
