Power outage no longer expected as Holy Cross fixes damaged equipment
2:15 p.m.: Power should no longer be effected, according to an Eagle County Alert around 2 p.m. Thursday, as Holy Cross Energy has fixed the issue.
Original story: Holy Cross Energy will conduct an emergency power outage on the eastern side of Eagle County starting at 2 p.m. Thursday. The outage is expected to last approximately 30 minutes or more pending any unexpected issues, according to a release from Holy Cross Energy.
Holy Cross said a piece of damaged equipment was discovered earlier Thursday on the Xcel Energy transmission line between Wolcott and Steamboat Springs. The equipment is located on the windy mesa west of Yampa and could become a fire hazard.
Xcel has determined that it needs to replace the equipment as soon as possible and that it will need to de-energize the line to do the work safely. The transmission lines bring electricity to the Holy Cross Energy distribution system, which serves the entire Eagle River Valley.
The outage is expected to impact Holy Cross Energy users from Edwards up to Vail.
